Monoblock amplifiers send power through a single channel. They are ideal for subwoofers. If you’re new to car audio, you’ll see the term Monoblock Amplifier. What does it mean. Mono amplifiers can be used to power single or multiple subwoofers. You can pair monoblocks with multiple channel stereo amplifiers for a refined and balanced tone. Using discrete controls like low-pass and subsonic filters in concert with the filters on your multiple channel amplifier will make your car stereo sound its best. Why do you need a monoblock amp and subwoofer in your car? Stock factory door speakers and dash tweeters are not capable of faithfully reproducing frequencies below the 80 Hz range, You can try to play re-bassed music on your 6.5-inch coaxial and component speakers but it will sound muddy and distorted because they are not designed to play in that bandwidth. Factory car stereos are capable of powering the stock OEM features, like door speakers and dash tweeters. They are not capable of powering high-RMS subwoofers. If you want bass in your car that brings your music to LIFE, you’ll need a subwoofer. If you have a subwoofer, you’ll need to power it. That’s where single-channel amplifiers like Monoblocks come into the picture. Mono amps boost a single input signal through a single output channel. Mono Amplifiers are not full-range amplifiers. Since they lack left-right separation, a mono amp alone can’t reproduce stereo signals. Your Mono Amp has two speaker inputs so you can utilize series and parallel wiring methods to achieve your desired impedance level. Learn more about wiring here.
